The Top 10 things a MOB Thinks she’ll never say – but does

Ever wonder if the dreaded words come out of the mother of the bride’s mouth at times that are very emotional and sensitive. They might, but not with the intention of hurting you or to cause problems but rather to bring awareness and light to the situation.

Here are 10 things that a MOB might say:                                                                    1. “Yes, honey, that bustle makes your rear end look huge.”                                      2. ”We cannot have a cash bar at the reception.”                                                              3. “My ex-husband and I can certainly tolerate each other for one day as long as…….”  4. “Who wants to crash a reception with me to check out the band?”                                 5. “Well, if it were my wedding, I would do it this way. Since I am paying for it, i have the final say……”                                                                                                                      6. ”No, dear, you and your new husband can’t live with me after the wedding. Newlyweds need their own space.”  If you are South Asian (Indian), “You have to live with us as we are a family and you belong to us……”                                                        7. “Why did you pick out these dishes for your registry?’                                                 8. “Oh, its only money, and my daughter’s only getting married this one time.”               9. “Wow, it might be kind of nice when life returns back to normal…..”                            10. “We could not have done one more thing to better prepare ourselves for this wedding. We’re ready.”

Remember you are not the only one that has heard one or all of these lines or will be the only one to hear these lines. Take it all with a grain of salt, and find a way to remove the negative while accepting the advise. Always, take time to enjoy your wedding preparations with your loved ones.

Or, you could have been on complete opposite spectrum’s of the universe and were inspired to create an amazing union. What ever the inspiration, be thankful that you are with the person of your dreams.

From the heart

Hello friends,

Today I am at a loss for words and running a blank on a topic so as I rack my brain for an idea………still pondering………. A light bulb goes off. I am going to write a poem from the heart.

Every time

Every time I think of you,                                                                                                    I thank God for being Blessed with your love.

Every time we disagree,                                                                                                     I feel my soul disintegrating into a thousand pieces.

Every time our souls meet,                                                                                             The angels are smiling down on us.

Every time I say I love you,                                                                                           The world seems brighter and happier just like you.

You make my world complete, without your love, I AM LOST.

If you are at loss of words, turn to QueenoHearts Planners Ltd and we would be glad to heighten your emotional bonds.

Bridal Shower gift ideas

My sister and I were shopping and just having some well needed bonding time when she asked me what is appropriate to get my aquintance for her bridal shower?  There is the usual lingere (only if you are very close to the bride) and if no family memebers are there to maintain a coruem of respect and dignity.

So the list just kept growing like a spa retreate (package), two champaign flutes engraved with the couple’s names and wedding date, jewellery, a basket full of pampering products, a wine decanter, a guest signing book, a wedding scrappbook, a towel set, and the list goes on. QueenoHearts Planners Ltd. can help you with the planning of your bridal shower while you enjoy the company of all the beautiful ladies in your life.

Deep Water Mingle

Today’s entry is a blast from the past. This is an event we just finished. The company name has been changed to protect the identity of the employees.

It’s Saturday March 3rd, 2012 evening and all 100 employees and their significant others of The Big Green Sporting Supply Company are joyously and excitedly arriving at the Vancouver Aquarium for a well-deserved night full of surprises, incentives, fun, and a night to remember. While renting out the entire venue for various activities throughout the evening, men and women are dressed to nines. The handsome men are wearing suits and ties while sporting stunning women dressed in shades of red and accessories that bring life to any room. As each couple enters the building they are greeted with a red rose for the ladies and a white rose for the gentlemen and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a door prize. The staff are all in black and white.

Everyone is mesmerized as they walk into the Tropical Gallery and the Treasures of the BC Coast to find that they are one with nature and in a unique and gratifying way. You can see seas of colours, water stretching for an eternity, round tables flowing every so nicely with white linens and red and white roses in beautiful long stemmed sliver vases. Who says you need to go to the Ocean and be lost under water, when you can enjoy the breath taking experience at this incentive dinner. Your senses are heightened and relaxed with the distinctive ocean scent, you are salivating with anticipation of the food as it smells amazing and looks to die for. As the evening unfolds, the excitement builds with eagerness and joy for the next adventure.

Bruschetta, artichoke with bread snaps, jumbo shrimp on a stick, veggie platter, different cheeses, cold cuts, and mini spanakopita are waiting to be indulged and enjoyed while leaving room for either; an 8oz sirloin steak served with roasted potatoes, grilled mixed vegetables, salad, bread and a 4oz lobster tail or a roasted quail with the same sides all plated and hand delivered at the same time. A vegetarian option is also available if requested tortellini on garlic butter sauce and garlic bread. As it is an evening of celebration and incentives, be sure to leave room for mouth-watering desserts mini lemon tarts, individual sized crème burley, fresh fruit, chocolate fondue, strawberry moose, New York cheese cake, chocolate decedent cake and mini fruit flan. Coffee and tea are not forgotten with the many devouring flavours.

Cocktails and drinks are served, while the Master of Ceremonies welcomes everyone and provides them with a quick overview of the evening. There will be plenty of moments to mingle and socialize with one another tonight and to win prizes. We will be witnessing a dolphin show with a chance to win a getaway to Mexico for two, followed by dinner and a few chances to win a BMW 328 CI hard top convertible, a paid trip to India and Africa, and $15,000 cash in hand. After dinner, brace yourself a scavenger hunt which will end in the Arctic with a scuba diver and Beluga Whale show with a chance to win a trip to Vegas, everyone will be directed to the Canaccord Capital Exploration Gallery for the award and incentive ceremony while sipping on some more drinks and enticed with gourmet chocolate. The night is still young, vibrant and with some more surprises. For the moment we have all been waiting for is here, the desserts will be served in the Wild Coast Underwater Gallery with half of the door prizes to be drawn (a getaway to Hawaii, a scooter, a Honda Accord, and a state of the art home theatre system with speakers, laptop, projector and 80” TV) and finally, the dancing starts in the Pacific Canada Pavilion and allows the guests to mingle, or just dance the night away. To end this night with the remaining door prizes (a Mercedes Benz 230 4matic, diamond stud earrings 2 carats, a 2 bedroom apartment in Coal harbour overlooking the water, a diamond necklace set on platinum 8 carats, and $75,000 cash prize.)

That would conclude the evening where all 200 guests would marvel, dream, be energized, be on top of the world, feel like royalty, rejuvenated, and more determined to increase sales for the following year.

Service Styles

Today’s topic of interest is a continuation from yesterdays FARE TYPE. These styles of service are more commonly seen and known. You can mix match the styles with the type of service till you turn blue in the face.

Butler Service:                                                                                           Commonly known as tray service                                                                             Similar to Russian                                                                                                             Food is presented on platters                                                                                  Cocktail style                                                                                                               Food is passed around                                                                                Server controls the amount of food that is served

Factors to be considered:                                                                                          There is enough food                                                                                                        Guests mingle around the food                                                                                      You need to increase all food items’ quantity especially, it you are only serving cocktails                                                                                                                  Enough staff on hand                                                                                                Finger foods

Buffet service:                                                                                                              Buffet stations are setup for guests to go and help themselves. Generally, there is staff at each station to assist with serving of the entrees or a chef to carve the meat        There should be enough seating for everyone                                                 Sustainability                                                                                                                            One double lined buffet station serves up to 100-150 guests and depending on the menu, time will be allocated accordingly

Factors to be considered:                                                                                         Over compensate on the food                                                                                           Wasteful                                                                                                                           Can not donate                                                                                                                 Costly                                                                                                                         Plenty of equipment is required

Grazing stations:                                                                                                         Mini buffet stations used to encourage guests to mingle and sample a variety of foods There can be an interactive station with the chef preparing the a la minute for guests Seating may be casual with some bistro tables and chairs and tall pedestal tables or semi formal seating with enough seating for everyone

Factors to be considered:                                                                                  Requires a higher budget due to a large volume of food, staffing, equipment and decorations                                                                                                                    High volume of wastage

Rather than turning blue in the face determining what style suits you best, leave it to us at QueenoHearts Planners to do the planning.

FARE Type

Today’s blog is not inspired by anything in particular but more of an informative blog.

You must be wondering what FARE Type means? There are 4 major types of food services to consider for your reception. At one point or the other you have seen one or a combination of service used.

F-French:                                                                                                                          Cooking on a cart and using a rechaud (a warming unit in the table-side cart)                 Involves the use of elegant serving pieces (usually silver)                                                 The Chef cooks and prepares all the food at the individual table                                        Served on a hot plate to the guests by the server                                                              Entrees should be served from the right                                                                          Salads, bread and butter from the left                                                                               Beverages from theright                                                                                                     All items to be removed from the right

Factors to consider:                                                                                                   Time consuming it takes 20 mins for 8people                                                            Costly                                                                                                                                       It is done leisurely                                                                                                                Extra space is needed                                                                                                         Best for small weddings

A-American:                                                                                                            Platted meal                                                                                                                Food is platted in the kitchen and placed before the guests                                              Side plates are used for bread and butter and salad                                                        Food is served from the left                                                                                            Beverages from the right                                                                                                  All item are removed from the right

Factors to consider:                                                                                                   One entree per guest                                                                                                           Portion controlled                                                                                                            Pre RSVP is required in order to serve guests their preferences                                     You can upgrade the type of service to synchronized service (everyone at the table gets served at exactly the same time and plates removed at the same time – very formal sit down dinner  - requires more staff – costly)

R-Russian:                                                                                                                  Food is prepared and pre-cut in the kitchen                                                                  All courses are served from platters                                                                                 Tureens (a deep covered dish to serve soup) are used for soup                            Special bowls used for salads                                                                                       Server places the proper plate in front of the guest, after the plate is placed, the server returns with a tray of food and going counter clockwise around the table, serves from guests’ left with the right hand                                                                          Generally, the platter is presented to the whole table so that they can admire the beautiful arrangement                                                                                                        Elegant

Factors to be considered:                                                                                               Timely                                                                                                                    Experienced Servers                                                                                                Synchronization                                                                                                              Food must be kept warm

E-English:                                                                                                                 Family Style                                                                                                                         Food is brought to the table on a tray, presented to the host/hostess                      He/she may either cut the meat or choose to have the server cut the meat away from the table                                                                                                                       Great to donate food                                                                                             Vegetables are placed on the table in bowls for guests to serve themselves      Everything is on the table                                                                                                 Inexpensive                                                                                                                     No over compensating on food

Factors to be considered:                                                                                           Too casual                                                                                                                      Can become too messy

Happy Earth Day!

Today is a day that we can give back to the Earth in so many ways. What is your contribution? Today, I am going to be truing off all the lights as we have a habit to leave them on. Just remember, every small act counts so join the celebration.

You guessed right, how do you make your wedding Eco-friendly. We all want our days to be special and memorable and don’t realise how much we are harming the earth with all the packaging, products/items we use for decorations and so on. Now you can have it all and still by friendly to our Earth by using all recycled items, having organic foods, not using any paper products especially during the cocktails, declare the wedding a no plastic zone, ask the staff if they can decompose the scraps of food rather than just throwing them out and the list goes on.

As for you bonbonnieres (party favors) you can make a donation to any organization in your guests name, you can give them a planted herb, you can give them a bag of seeds for flowers which the can pot and grow themselves. The list is endless and you can get as creative as your mind allows.

If you are looking to go Green or blue, or whatever you heart contents look no further than QueenoHearts Planners Ltd. as we will take care of your every need and desire.

Wrestling the Heat

I was waiting in the car today for my Mom to get off work, turned off the car and was on my phone. 5 minutes later, it felt as though I was baking under the Hawaiian sun. I thought of turning on the car to get the AC running then remembered the bylaw and decided against the AC. My next thought was to leave the door open as the windows were already down and no air movement, ahhh……….opted out of that option for the risk of killing my battery. So i grab for my bottled water in hopes that I would cool down just a bit, you guessed it; no water left. Now I’m thinking I’m not going to last any longer and my Mom still had another 5-10 minutes left till the end of her shift. Just then the car in-front of me left and i moved up to be in the shade. What a relief, i got some AC and shade to cool down.:) I was one happy camper.

Tis the season for outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions, think of your guests in the heat. Find out where the sun is facing, where the sun sets, is there any shade near by, if it is really hot can you have ice cold drinks served, have some sort of cooling method ie. paper fans, or cooling generators, and have a contingent plan if it is extremely hot. We have had a few heat waves here in Vancouver.

It is wonderful, beautiful, and peaceful to get married in the outdoors and to make it extra special, let us do the worrying about everyone’s safety and well being. All you have to do is, sit back and enjoy the day.
